If I reel too fast, I hear a loud buzzing sound and the app goes wack.
We found the bug, patched it, and uploaded a bug fix in version 1.0.1. The price has been lowered to $0.99 until the bug fix is available.
For now, don’t reel faster than the red line. If you hear the buzzing sound, stop reeling immediately. Quit the app by pressing the iPhone’s Home button. If the app is stuck buzzing, it may take 20 seconds for pressing the device’s home button to work. If it keeps buzzing for more than 20 seconds, you may need to force-power-off the device by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake Button.

After a few minutes of game play, the app randomly crashes.
In version 1.0, There’s a bug in the Fisherman’s Guide & Tackle box code that leaks gobs of memory. Until bug fix 1.0.1 is released, you can avoid this by turning off the sound effects and ambience in “Options” on the “Home Screen.” In version 1.0.1, your trophies and live well are saved when you catch the fish, so that if the memory-leak crash continues, it won’t delete your progress. If it does crash. Turn your phone off then on to make sure you have plenty of memory.

The line doesn’t go far enough into the water.
How far the line goes is dependent on how hard you “cast” the phone. (It uses the accelerometer.) “Cast” it harder next time. Give yourself a good ten seconds to reel with the line in the water. We’ll change the “text status” if you’re not going to catch a fish after 15 seconds.

Why isn’t there a career mode?
We enjoy the game so much the way it is now that we didn’t want to hold it back from you, but we plan to add a career mode in the future.

Can I listen to my iPod music while playing Hooked?
Yes, but game play will be jittery. The background “ambience” will not play, but sound effects will still happen, unless you turn them off...

Help, game play is jittery while listening to iPod Music!
See answer above.

The volume control only seems to affect the ambience, not the sound effects.
Yep. Use the volume controls on your device to change the sound effect volume. Sorry 1st gen. iPod Touch users.

How do I remove fish from my Live Well or Trophy Room?
The Trophy Room automatically keeps track of the heaviest of each fish species, and you can’t remove them. The Live Well adds fish you just caught to the top, and you don’t remove them either. Just catch a few more and they’ll run off the bottom...

Does the time of day impact the probability of catching a fish?
At this time, no. We want to add this in later versions. For now it just changes the lake background images and the ambience sound.

Does the Lake change the probability of catching a fish?
Yes, the different lakes are stocked with different fish. Read about the lakes in the Fisherman’s Guide.

Does the selection of gear change the probability of catching a fish?
Yes; certain fish prefer certain baits, certain rigs, a bobber and so forth. consult to Fisherman’s Guide to see which fish like which gear.

Why do the Tackle Box, Live Well, and Home buttons sometimes disappear?
When you have cast the line, the Tackle Box, Live Well, and Home buttons slide off the screen to give you more room to see the action and reel. Just move your finger in a clockwise motion over the image of the reel to reel in the line, and they will slide back in.

The game crashed and I lost my most recent trophies, live well or options!
In version 1.0, Hooked is programmed to save your trophies, live well and options when it closes (i.e. you press the device’s Home button), so if something really odd happens and it crashes, it won’t save changes since the last time you played.
However, in update 1.0.1, the app was altered so that your trophies, live well & settings are saved every time you catch a fish.

Why can’t I see the bobber?
Deal with it. Be nice and maybe it will be in version 1.1. :-)

I can’t scroll in the Live Well.
Fixed in version 1.0.1.

Why all the problems if I reel too fast?
If you reel too fast, the line will break, and the fish will get away.
Besides that, the phone has physical limitations as to how fast it can track your motions & recompute the display.

Why isn’t it in OpenGL?
Because we are two aerospace engineering grad students. Personally, we like it the way it is. But, hey, we think it would be great to do it in OpenGL, too...

Are these pictures of real lakes?
No. Ryan hand crafted them pixel by pixel in Paint.
Yes; of course they’re real pictures of the lakes.

Blah blah blah Social Networking blah blah blah?
Is fishing where you go for social networking? Please don’t send us an e-mail with an answer to this question.

Can I drive around the lake?
See, Ryan wanted this to be a fishing game. I, on the other hand, wanted it to be about racing jet boats... You can see who won...
